Who will survive the fourth round’s fence?

While a surprising slaughter was present in the lower half of the draw on Saturday, the favorites of the top half went well, thank you.

On Sunday the top players blew with 8 seeds no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, No. 4 Coco Gais, No. 7 Mirra Andreeva and No. 8 Zheng Qinwen-Alle on the Bnazionali-Bnl d’Italia to Monday.

A little below the radar lurked two former US open champions that fought against injuries and illnesses -also Bianca Andreescu and Emma Raducanu.

No. 6 Jasmine Paolini was the only forecast quarter finalist who rose to the fourth round in the lower half of the draw. But take the heart, because there is this non-set bonus matchup: Peyton Stearns meets the four-time Grand Slam-Singles Champion Naomi Osaka.

Here is a snapshot of all eight rounds of 16 games that are played in Rome on Monday:

Upper half

No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka against Marta Kostyuk

Head on head: 3-0, Sabalenka. The last game a few weeks ago in the Madrid quarter-finals was a violent battle that went to Sabalenka 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7).

She has never won the title here in Rome, but Sabalenka’s path is clearer after a few top -class disorders of the third round. Sabalenka returned to defeat No. 31 Sofia Kenin 3-6, 6-3, 6: 3, while Kostyuk was a 6: 4, 6: 2 winner against No. 24 Leylah Fernandez.

No. 4 Coco Gauff against Emma Raducanu

Head-to-head: 1-0, Gauff, in the second round of the Australian Open 2023, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

This meeting of the former US Open Champions could be the most expected game in the outstanding line -up on Monday. Gauff was a 7-5, 6-3 winner against No. 32 Magda Linette and Raducanu defeated Veronika Kudermetova 5: 7, 6: 0, 6-1.

No. 7 Mirra Andreeva against No. 22 Clara Tauson

Head on head: Andreeva, 2-0.

This will be the third meeting between these two this year – and a remaining of the Dubai final. Andreeva won this 7-6 (1) with 6: 1 and followed it with a 32-round victory on the way to the title in Indian Wells.

Andreeva sent No. 30 Linda Noskova 6-1, 7-5, while Tauson came back to defeat No. 10 Emma Navarro 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

No. 8 Zheng Qinwen against Bianca Andreescu

Head on head: Zheng, 1: 0, a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 victory three years ago in Toronto.

Zheng had only played 16 games in Rome, but her level has been on the rebound lately. With a win against Andreescu, she will reach her third quarter -finals in the last four WTA -1000s. Zheng dealt with No. 26 Magdalena cheeky 6-3, 6-2. Andreescu No. 11 Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-4.

Lower half

No. 6 Jasmine Paolini against No. 17 Jelena Ostapenko

Head at head: 2: 1, Ostapenko, including her last meeting, a 6: 2, 6: 2 victory in the third round of this year’s Doha tournament.

This is a welcome Uncharted Territory for Paolini, the Italian favorites. She had never been to Rome before, but a convincing 6: 4, 6: 3 victory against Ons Jabeur has a victory outside the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Ostapenko presented a walker when Lucky Loser Laura Siegemund retired with a leg injury.

No. 13 Diana Shraider against No. 25 Elise Mertens

Head-to-head: 2-0, Mertens, most recently in the Stuttgart round from 2025 on red clay with a 6-2, 7: 6 (5) number.

Mertens annoyed No. 3 Jessica Pegula, 7-5, 6: 1 on Saturday evening, while Shraider was a 6-3, 6-3 winner about Jaqueline Cristian. Shrader was trained in Madrid by the former world No. 1 Dinara Safina and presented in the 16th round before he fell to Iga Swiadek. According to Shraider, the two did not separate after the trip to Rome.

No. 16 Elina Svitolina against No. 29 Danielle Collins

Head-A-head: 2: 1, Collins-Aber Svitolina won the last game in March 6-2, 6: 4 in the 32nd round in Indian Wells.

So far, Svitolina was great on sound this season and won 13 of 14 games. She was a list of titles in Rouen, France and led to the semi -finals in Madrid before fell to the later champion Aryna Sabalenka. Svitolina defeated qualifiers Hailey Baptiste.

Naomi Osaka against Peyton Stearns

Head-to-head: 0-0.

One of the best games from Osaka last year was a defeat against the future champion Iga Swiatek near Roland Garros. Perhaps it was a premonition because Osaka has now won eight games in a row on Clay after her WTA 125 title in Saint Malo -the first of her career on Clay. The last one was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory against Marie Bouzkova. Stearns returned to her team with the new coach Blaz Kavcic to strike No. 5 Seed and other American Madison Keys 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3).
