Where to find the best ski resorts in Canada

The ingredients for a perfect ski resort are as follows: breathtaking landscapes, fresh powder, varied (and challenging!) terrain, modern facilities and a strong après scene. Our neighbors to the north? They do all of that and more. In fact, the best ski resort in Canada ticks all the boxes when it comes to a world-class ski resort.

British Columbia has the lion’s share of Canada’s ski resorts, with the famous Powder Highway running through the region’s Kootenay Rockies. Here you’ll find adrenaline-pumping adventures like heli-skiing, as well as typical ski resorts and luxurious backcountry lodges. There’s also a ski scene in Eastern Canada that’s worth checking out (more on that below) and is particularly attractive to those who live in New York City, where Quebec is just an hour and a half away by plane.

Instead of hitting the same old slopes, head north to Canada’s world-famous ski resorts this winter and enjoy the country’s impressive amounts of snow and pristine terrain.

Undoubtedly Canada’s best-known ski resort, Whistler Blackcomb offers 8,100 acres of terrain connected by two interconnected mountains (in fact, the largest ski resort in all of North America). The resort is popular for several reasons – perhaps most notably because of the variety of slopes for all skill levels. The world-famous scenery is also a big draw, as are the world-class facilities (think mountain huts, high-speed lifts and numerous restaurants and après-ski bars).

Located about two hours north of Vancouver, the resort features the longest continuous lift system in the world, with a gondola connecting the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb. These side-by-side mountains average 34 feet of snow annually across their 200 marked trails, 16 alpine bowls and three glaciers. Whether you’re a first-timer, carving with the whole family, or an expert looking for backcountry powder, Whistler Blackcomb has it all… and more.

Where to stay

Resembling a European Alpine vignette, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler features rich wood interiors, crackling fireplaces, and spacious guest rooms. The heated outdoor pool and three hot tubs offer panoramic views of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains and are open year-round. Book a full-day private lesson with the resort’s ski concierge, followed by a pampering treatment at the spa. Nita Lake Lodge offers a boutique hotel experience and is quietly located along Whistler Creek. Guests can enjoy rooftop hot tubs (like mountain views), a barrel sauna, and festive holiday programming throughout the holiday season.
