Cartel murders continue to take place in Jalisco. Less than two weeks after the chief of police was killed in Teocaltiche by alleged antitrust members, city council minister José Luis Pereida was fatally shot in front of a seafood restaurant near the city center on Monday.

“José Luis was a young man who was dedicated to his community – hardworking and generous. His death leaves a deep emptiness for his family, friends and the people in Teoctiche,” wrote Laura Haro, President of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Jalisco, on social media.

“We condemn its coward murder of the state and state authorities who are responsible for public security, we demand justice, a quick examination and stronger security efforts in this community, which continues to suffer from violence,” she added.

So far, no arrests have been reported in connection with Pereida’s murder.

TEOCALTICHEN public staff are still targeted

At the beginning of this month, the local media reported on the murder of Ramón Grande Moncada, police chief in Teoctiche.

According to the Jalalco Attorney General, Moncada was attacked by an unidentified shooter near the district of Maravillas. He was in a vehicle when the suspect opened the fire, hit him three times and killed him before he fled in front of the scene.

The murder of Moncada took place just a few hours after the confiscation of ownership in the region, which was used by criminal groups to prevent stolen vehicles and other goods, and worth around 2 million US dollars.

In order to raise awareness of the wave of violence that the region plagued after the death of Moncada, the Teoctich community administration published a message on its official Facebook account, which expressed outrage over recent events. The explanation reflected the growing public frustration about the security situation in North Jalisco and called for an immediate and strong reaction of the state and state authorities.

“People in Teocaltiche can no longer live in fear, violence and pain,” the explanation says. “Today we raise our voices with deep helplessness and outrage over the tragedies that our community have met again and again. Enough the deaths! Enough of the suffering of our families! Enough of being ignored!” The explanation says.

Cartel -related violence on jalisco gives chaos

The municipality of Teocaltiche is located in a Jalisco region, which has been controversial over smuggling routes for two large drug cartels. While the state is considered a stronghold of C’Artel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), the Sinaloa cartel has a significant presence in the Los Altos region, less than 20 miles east of Guadalajara.

In the past few months, the residents have reported several incidents of violence and forced shift due to the continuing clashes between the competing criminal organizations.

The murder of Pereida is the latest in a series of attacks on public servants in the region. At the beginning of this month, the municipal police officer Luis Ernesto Chávez Regino was shot in his house on April 9th.

Similarly, eight local police officers were reported in February. Only three were found from now on.
