Tony Stewart explains the only way how Kyle Larson Charlotte-Indy can have a double mandatory

When it comes to participating in “The Double” (or as some people like to call it “Double Duty”)-driving in Indycars Indianapolis 500 and NASCARS COCA-COLA 600 on the same Tag-Tony Stewart knows what he is talking about.

After Stewart took part in the Double Two Toppy (1999 and 2001), he is the only driver in the history of the Doubleheader, who ends and completed every 1,100 miles between 500 and 600 on the same day (in 2001).

So when it comes to Kyle Larson’s second bid in a row in doubles this month, Stewart has to offer advice.

During his first attempt last year, Larson could not run both goals. The 500 was delayed by rain by several hours, and although Larson ultimately ended 18TH And earned the rookie of the year honors, he could not come to Charlotte in time to take part in the 600.

If the weather is not a problem this year, Stewart believes that Larson can complete both races.

“The feat of everyone 1,100 miles, Kyle should be able to do this, no problem, ”said Stewart in the weekly edition of The Rubbin ‘Racing Podcast.

“It’s not as difficult as before Robby Gordon did and John Andretti did it, Kurt Busch did it once. The reliability of the Indy cars was not so good (back then), the reliability of the camp cars was not so good (also back).

“Kyle has to shoot, to end the sixth or better place in the 500 and the third or better in the 600, which is feasible, it is very feasible. He can achieve this.

“He is the kind of talent that if he doesn’t make any mistakes at Indy. I think you think in a good position last year to achieve a solid finish, and it was all the case that he was accelerated on Pitstrasse while climbing.

“He cannot make mistakes; he already had a mistake here in practice (Larson met the wall during the open test of the last week). Only a small Boble, it doesn’t take much to ruin your day at Indy, so it is about placing 500 miles there.

“They bring him to Charlotte, it is as if he is doing the eyes connected to it and a hand is bound behind his back. He has a shot to undoubtedly win it.

Things have changed dramatically since Stewart’s last doubles in 2001

The last time Stewart ran the doubles was almost a quarter of a century ago to be precise. Indycar has changed, Nascar has changed, the technology has changed – pretty much everything about the race at both events has changed significantly, except perhaps that both styles of racing cars still have four bikes.

“The last time I ran the double in 2001, and I can promise that the competition in Indycar is now much narrower than then.” Said Stewart. “That’s why I have the feeling that he exceeds what we did, if he fits him at all or exceeded what we did.

“Indy is about making no mistakes. If you do not make mistakes and bring yourself to the last or two races in which you try to get into the position to drive for this victory, you are in a good place.

“But every mistake – if it is a box business if (a pit -crew member) is screwed in and loosens a bike and you have to get back in when you have to stop the engine on the boxes to leave the box – these are the things you can take out of this occasion.

“So for Kyle it is about making no mistakes in the 500, staying concentrated and remembering.

Stewart also emphasized the fact that clean air and a feeling of where his car is to be positioned in traffic are two of the greatest nuances that can be had in the famous quad -oval in modern times.

“So always ensure that the car is mobile in traffic. … It literally understands all these little nuances in Indianapolis that these other boys with whom he rests know it like the back of the hand.

“But I mean realistically he is in a car and he is with a team that is able to win the Indy 500, and he is damn sure with a team in Charlotte that he can win the Coke 600 at the same time.”
