The former two -time Gold Glover Cardinals announces retirement

On Sunday afternoon, the second Baseman Kolten Wong announced his resignation of professional baseball. The 34 -year -old Wong played in the Major League baseball for 11 years.

Kolten Wong’s career includes two gold gloves, a third place in the National League Rookie of the Year Voting 2014 and a pennant from the National League with the Cardinals 2013. While Wong’s number of career is not falling into the history books, he was extremely consistent and he was one of the best defensive second basema in his time.

Wong announced his retirement on his Alma Mater, the University of Hawaii. Brian McINNINS from Spectrum News reported for the first time about this information.

“I’m done at the moment,” said Wong. “I came to the conclusion that I will probably hang it up. It is just one of these things in which the game as things are going now is not a feeling of the chase (it). … I’m now a father, yes, I enjoy that. I try to be the best big league father that I can.

Wong was collected in 2011 by the St. Louis Cardinals from the University of Hawaii from the 22nd. He ended his career with a Slash line of .256/.330/.390, 973 hits, 86 home runs and 120 stolen bases.

In Wongs eight seasons with the cardinals, he met .261 with an ops .717. Wong was mostly known for his defense, but he had a decent pop for a player of his size, and his speed was also above average. He often achieved above-average sprint speeds, and his 17 defensive runs, which were saved in 2019, have had all Cardinals runners-up basemen since his rookie year in 2013.

Wong literally started his career on the wrong foot. Wong came to Pinch Run in the 2013 World Series, while the cardinals in the ninth in ninth in the ninth against the Boston Red Sox had dropped 4-2. Wong was picked up by Koji Uhara and the game ended.

The Breakout year of Wong took place in 2017, the second year of a contract of five years, $ 25.5 million. “Wonger” lowered .285/.376/.412 with a 34 additional basis in just 108 games. He ended the year with a 109 ops+. He won a gold glove in 2019 and 2020, and his 2019 season with the cardinals was the best of his career, according to Bwar (5.4).

After his time at the Cardinals, Kolten Wong signed a multi -year contract with the division competitor Milwaukee Brewers. Wong experienced a certain career with the brewers in 2021 and 2022, but in 2023 he fell back with the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers. 2023 was his last year in professional baseball.

Wong’s retirement follows the retirement of another cardinal: Matt Carpenter. Carpenter announced his retirement last week and the two infields spent many years together in St. Louis. If you announce Matt Carpenter and Kolten Wong in the same week, the book will be closed on the success of the organization from 2013 to 2019.

Although Kolten Wong is not a guarantee of a red jacket down the street, he will surely be running. He was a member of a very successful era of Cardinal Baseball.
