As a mother, are you entitled to seats on public transport such as subways and buses?

A lady in today’s story seems to think this is the case; However, another woman on the subway seemed to think that the mother and her child were completely fine.

Things became tense.

Let’s see how the story develops…

I (23F) was completely exhausted on the subway on the way home from work.

My company organized a sporting event that kept me busy all day.

My commute is quite long – about 50 minutes.

Luckily I got a seat and was just about to fall asleep when a lady and her little boy (who looked about eight years old) got on at the next station.

The lady walked towards her.

The lady was carrying her son, although he appeared to be perfectly capable of walking on his own.

She walked straight towards me and motioned for me to stand up with her head.

She didn’t even say anything and it felt like she was just expecting me to move.

The boy wasn’t a toddler – he appeared to be about 8 years old, so I didn’t understand why she was carrying him.

She spoke for herself.

Something about her face triggered something in me, so I bluntly said, “No.”

She seemed surprised and started talking about how someone my age would give up her seat for a mother with her child.

She also made some comments about how disrespectful the younger generation is.

The lady herself looked like she was in her late 30s, and again, the boy didn’t seem to be being carried at all.

She wonders if she did something wrong.

A few people gave me dirty looks and I felt uncomfortable, but I stayed in my seat.

However, as I got out and went home, I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe I was in the wrong.

AITA?

I wonder why the lady approached her.

It seems like she singled them out for some reason.

Let’s see how Reddit reacted…

The mother should have spoken up if there was a good reason why the child needed the seat.

The mother’s attitude was terrible.

It seems like there’s always an excuse for someone else to need your space.

This is probably why the mother carried her son…

I hope she had a nice nap on the subway!

Some people have great nerves.
