Rory McIlroy: Masters Champion “excited” to play the first event in India

The Masters Champion Rory McIlroy says that he was “excited” to play his first tournament in India at the DP World India Championship this year.

The five-time major winner will take place for the new event in the Delhi Golf Club from October 16 to 19.

“I look forward to not only owing it to India for the first time, but also visiting a country that I have always wanted to explore,” said Mcilroy.

“I am proud to play in the first DP World India Championship. I have always enjoyed playing a global schedule, and as I said, there is enormous potential to continue growing in the country.

“This is a great opportunity, and I can’t wait to play in front of Indian golfans.”

The confirmation of Mcilroy’s first visit to India follows the news, which he will return to the Australian Open for the first time in December in December.

The second world number two – which the Australian Open won 2013 – will lead the field at Royal Melbourne from December 4th to 7th and also committed to playing the tournament in 2026 in Kingston Heath.

After a disappointing place in the US PGA championship last week, Mcilroy returns to the campaign for the campaign in Ohio on May 29.

The 36-year-old will also compete at the Canadian Open in the first week of June before offering for his second big victory of the year at the US Open in Oakmont in Pennsylvania.
