Rangers claim Helman, DFA Ornelas

The Texas Rangers claimed the outfield Michael Helman at the exemptions from Pittsburgh Pirates and selected it for Aaa Round Rock, the team said today. In order to create space on the 40 -man list, the Rangers described the Utilityan Jonathan Ornelas for the task.

Helman, who turned 29 on Friday, was originally an 11th round of the Minnesota Twins in 2018 by Texas A & M. Helman was bought by the twins by the St. Louis Cardinals in spring training and last week from the pirates claimed exceptional controls. Ironically, Helman was shown on her squad on Saturday as a place for the former Ranger Nick Solak and never played a game in the Pirates system.

Helman seems to have a lot of overlaps with Sam Haggerty because he played a number of positions, with the second basis and midfield as a professional during his time. He is also a right hitter and has 10 record appearances in nine Major League games in his career, all with the twins in 2024.

I am not sure what is going on with this step. Ornelas is primarily an infield, and it may be that the Rangers feel that they need more depth in the outer field than in the Infield. Kevin Pillars may be struggling – he lowers this season .214/.214/.262 with a .225 Xwoba – The Rangers are looking for additional right hit -outfield options.
