PSG boss Luis Enrique jokes about Ligue 1 ‘Farmers’ League’ label

Paris-Luis Enrique mocked the status of Ligue 1 as a “Bauernliga” after Paris Saint-Germain had sealed a place in the Champions League final with a 3-1 semi-final victory against Arsenal-a victory this season completed a clean sweep against Premier League teams.

After PSG won 1-0 in the Emirates Stadium last week, he completed the job in Parc of the Princes with gates from Fabián Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi, before Bukayo Saka scored a consent for Arsenal 76th minute.

After PSG sealed the title Ligue 1 last month, he can now complete the Treble if you were in the Coupé de France final against Reims in the final of the Champions League in Munich on May 24th.

But after he said that PSG had reached the Champions League final -the second appearance of the club after losing Bayern Munich in Lisbon in 2020 -after defeating four Premier League teams (Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal), Luis Enrique joked that the “Bauernvill” -was used.

“The league of the farmers, no? We are the farmers’ league,” Luis Enrique told TNT Sports. “But it’s nice. We enjoy the result and the compliments of everyone who speak of our team – our mentality as we play. It’s nice.

“Mikel Areta is a great friend, but I am not agreed at all (that Arsenal deserves to win). They play as they want and like to play, but we have scored more goals in the two legs and that is the most important thing.

“Arsenal played a great game and we suffered a lot, but we deserve to get to the final.

“How will you win a Champions League without a great goalkeeper? Today Gigi (Gianluigi Donnarumma) was phenomenal, as he was in every qualification round like against Liverpool.

“How will you win the Champions League without a good defense? You were phenomenal today.”

PSG lost three of her first five league phase games and seemed to get out of the competition in January.

But Luis Enrique, who led Barcelona to the Champions League Glory in 2015, said that her 4-2 victory against Man City in Paris in January was the turning point of her campaign.

“The turning point could have been the game against Manchester City, in which we lost 0-2,” said Luis Enrique.

“But in the group phase statistics we were among the best in Europe. We are fair finalists.

“It means a lot. Everyone dreamed of getting to a Champions League final, and our first goal when we arrived in Paris was to write history and we are on the right track.”

PSG appears in the final after the series -a champions Barcelona removed in the semifinals, and Luis Enrique said it would be a difficult encounter for his team.

“Inter are more experienced than we, older players, but we want to win trophies and we will have this mentality for the final,” said Luis Enrique.

“It will be difficult, but you will have the same final. An interesting finale – very difficult for both teams. A special moment for us and you.

“It is your second final in three years, so you are a great team. We have time to plan, but now it’s time to celebrate.”
