Professional basketball player leaves the sport behind and opens a car tuning shop

Leo Lyons, a former professional basketball player, took a surprising side step after leaving the playing field – he opened his own car tuning business.

While most players turn to coaching or business after retirement, Lyons decided to follow his passion for cars.

He even started as an apprentice mechanic at a Subaru dealer to learn the ropes.

That is devotion.

Lyon’s love for bikes did not come with age, he carried it with him since childhood, just like five-year-old Zayn Sofuoğlu, who drove a Lamborghini Revuelto at 310 km/h.

His personal garage cannot be overlooked either, as it contains treasures such as a widebody Porsche 997 and a customized BMW E30 Touring.

Lyon’s love for widebody cars only grew when he started playing in Japan, where there is a large widebody car culture.

Then came the encounter with RWB (Rauh-Welt Wort) and its founder Akira Nakai, which sparked the dream of opening my own store.

“Seeing him at work, being around him and seeing how people adore him to this day has always motivated me to do exactly what he does,” Lyon said.

He leaves the game to follow his passion

Over the years, Lyons made contacts with people in the automotive industry and earned enough money through his basketball career to create his ideal setup.

His modified Porsche with a slant-nose kit from Japan and his turbocharged BMW E30 Touring, his “dad car,” were just the beginning of his collection.

Lyons said he gave up basketball because he no longer loved the game.

“Sometimes I just don’t want to do things I don’t love,” he said.

Now the former professional basketball player says he’s pursuing his passion by building cars that remind him of his childhood.
