Officers arrest suspected driver for driving under the influence and driving a stolen car after a chase in Los Angeles

Officers arrested a suspected suspect on drunken driving and stolen vehicle charges after a chase Friday night in Los Angeles, police confirmed to KTLA.

According to the Simi Valley Police Department, an officer began pursuing the car around 7:45 p.m. when they suspected the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

While pursuing the car, police discovered it was a stolen vehicle from San Diego.

The officer following the car then attempted to stop it, but the driver sped away and initiated the pursuit.

The pursuit moved to a nearby highway and Los Angeles police soon provided assistance with an airship.

The LAPD continued to follow the car and eventually entered the West Hollywood area.

Details are limited, but the suspect was believed to be driving a black Chevy Camaro south on Highway 101 before exiting Silver Lake shortly after 8 p.m. Friday.

The driver and passenger jumped out of the car around 8:15 p.m. and fled in different directions. The LAPD remained upstairs.

According to police, a suspect, the passenger, was arrested almost immediately.

The driver drove into the backyard of a residence after Sky5 observed them throwing what appeared to be a cell phone over the fence into another yard.

According to police, the driver was later arrested after a brief search in the area of Edgemont Street and Melrose Avenue in East Hollywood.

Initial reports said the driver was eventually found hiding in a dumpster, but police did not immediately confirm that detail.

The police announced that there was suspicion that the two people were burglary suspects, as a home break-in had been committed in Simi Valley shortly before the chase, but so far there was no connection.

Simi Valley police did not immediately release the identities of the two suspects.
