Notes, lineups and how to watch

After a four-day break, the Flyers look to extend their winning streak to four games as they face the Florida Panthers for the first time this season.

The two have faced each other once this season, with the Panthers winning that game in a shootout. It was a back-and-forth affair, with a total of four goals scored in the second period. The Flyers tied the score almost midway through the third period before Evan Rodrigues would score the game-winning goal in the shootout.

The Flyers are the hotter team, having gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. The Panthers are 4-5-1 but have three wins in their last four games. They have also scored four more goals in the last four games.

Philadelphia Flyer

With a new month, the Flyers hope to start a new trend: no need for overtime to determine a winner. They have already played in 10 stoppage games this season, compared to just 19 a year ago, and they have won seven games when extra time was necessary. But that’s a lot of hockey to play over time that can hurt a team.

It’s not necessarily a problem when you have a player like Matvei Michkov. He has a flair for the dramatic and has scored three overtime goals this season. This is most common for a teenager. Do the Flyers play close games so Michkov can shine? Of course not, but they didn’t mind having to play so many overtime games.

Even though Sam Ersson is cleared to return, the Flyers are still taking a cautious approach with him. He has trained with the team twice this week but will not be in net yet. It’s a good problem for the Flyers to have as they aren’t in a situation where they need to rush Ersson. Ivan Fedotov will make another start to impress. He’s not worried about what the team will decide, but it has to come soon.

Flyers Projected Roster

Joel Farabee – Sean Couturier – Travis Konecny

Owen Tippett – Morgan Frost – Matvei Michkov

Tyson Foerster – Noah Cates – Bobby Brink

Scott Laughton – Ryan Poehling – Garnet Hathaway

Cam York-Travis Sanheim

Emil Andrae – Rasmus Ristolainen

Egor Zamula – Nick Seeler

Ivan Fedotov

Florida Panthers

Even though the Panthers’ record over the last 10 games hasn’t been great, the Panthers are still a team to fear. They can strike at any time and have a top-4 goals rate of 3.65 per game. That number has been over four in the last four games. They have scored a total of 21 goals in these games and have only conceded nine goals. They also score quickly, scoring three goals in 4:27 to tie the game against the Penguins last game.

Sam Reinhart is the leader in scoring not only for the Panthers, but also the league. He scored 18 goals, up from 57 goals last season, the best of his career. He is expected to reach that point total if he continues like this and could break the hundred-point mark for the first time. Sam Bennett has scored goals in his last four games and is at more than half of his 20 goals from last season. It was a slow start for Matthew Tkachuk as he only scored seven goals, but he did miss a few games. Don’t count him out.

With Sergei Bobrovsky not traveling as he and his wife await the birth of their next child, Spencer Knight will attempt to turn things around. He recently had a shutout but has lost four of his last five starts. He allowed five goals in the loss to Pittsburgh, so he will want to get back on track. He still put up pretty respectable numbers with a GAA of 2.60 and an SV% of .896.

Projected Panthers roster

Evan Rodrigues – Aleksander Barkov – Sam Reinhart

Carter Verhaeghe – Sam Bennett – Matthew Tkachuk

Eetu Luostarinen – Anton Lundell – Jesper Boqvist

AJ Greer – Tomas Nosek – Jonah Gadjovich

Gustav Forsling – Aaron Ekblad

Niko Mikkola – Nate Schmidt

Dmitry Kulikov – Adam Boqvist

Spencer Knight
