Nathan Fielder lands the plane

Spoiler alarm: The following piece contains Spoiler from “My Controls”, the final of the second season of “The ProB”.

The difference between “the rehearsal” and the former Nathan -field work is that it is explicitly about yourself. The idea that “Nathan for you” really went to help small companies, maybe being a joke, but one who told the Comedy Central series with a straight face. “The rehearsal” began with a similar concept and helped the volunteers to navigate about personal relationships, and not through professional problems through obsessive preparation. But in the course of the first season, the field player or better said that his stelts on the screen personnel, his methods to use the validity of his approach to other attempt to fail to fail to fail. This should have been an indication that the entire premise of the second season is an extended finte.

Allegedly, the second edition of “The ProBeal” Fielder’s sincere attempt to use the samples as a means to improve communication between airlines, which is why (he hopes) to prevent fatal crashes. The way to achieve this goal was already criticizing and weighed with vocal competitions, cloned dogs and a bald -cap that breastfeeds from a huge puppet. (It made a certain sense at the moment.) But the final on Sunday began that the field player had held decisive information in the previous episodes that reworked his entire company. All the time, Fields learned to fly an airplane himself and finally get a commercial pilot license. In other words, pilots did not support. He Is one. And by trying to help them, he really tries to help himself.

Fielder had started in the previous episode to put his own bow to the fore, in which his work with autistic fans who seeked in his eternal awkwardness. In theory, these setting diagnoses were a sloping means for Field to win an audience with Rep. Steve Cohen, a democratic congress member from Tennessee, who is a member of the house of the house as well as a lawyer for the neurodiverse. However, they also lead to flirting with a clinical explanation for his chronic inability to easily connect with other people, the decisive condition of his in-show character.

In the work of the brain bend of Field’s Work, where the border between reality and performance is in the eye of the viewer, the “sample” is the fourth wall to take into account the reaction to season 1, the marginal expansion. However, the autism story offers season 2 what was missing before: an explanation for Why Fielder is so busy with the Captain First Officer relationship. The implication was already there – Field modeled an exercise to test the openness of the pilots for his own experience to produce “Canadian idol”, but now explicitly. Fielder sees the problems of aviation experts as a separate version, so he might They have their own by joining their brothers.

This project opens up new comic boundaries for “the trial”; In the last episode of the season, Fielder makes it smart that he ends up a uniquely bad in the literary aircraft. It also increases (playful again) Fielder’s complete stunts to new extremes. If a slightly manic-sounding field appears a “gap” in regulations that enables him to carry an actual jet as long as his passengers do not pay, it is a marriage of “Nathan for you” style schema when he revived the smoking bar by placing a piece in the staging of a piece? – with HBO resources. Even without music to improve the tension of an eventless flight, the sight of the field in the cockpit in the cruising altitude is stunning in a way, in such a way of how television rarely has the ability to be.

But a narrative logic also works here. Fields gnawing concerns about his own potential autism climb head traps into its air in the air when he has to fill out a faa open -air form. Against Reddit’s advice, Fieldt asks a formal diagnosis, including an FMRI to ensure that nothing is available So Without him that he cannot be familiar with the lives of others. The results are not ready for his maiden voyage in time. Instead, he gets a threatening voicemail from the doctor’s office, while he is lurking in the shade and watching the final performance of pseudo reality “Wings of Voice”. And in a coda with an amazing scale that contradicts his dropped delivery, Fielder says that he started to close empty jets between remote corners of the world to deal with his uncertainties. “They only let the smartest and best people fly an airplane of this size,” says his Voice -over an aerial view of the African desert. “Nobody is allowed in the cockpit if something is wrong with them. So if they are here, they have to be fine.”

These final lines grab a blow, even if the deliberate structure of the season led to it with less pre-up, which could further improve their effects. Fielder began the second season by framing his mission as an altruistic exercise to help people drive and use air travel. (According to the recent headlines, it seems like they need it.) The final makes it clear that this renovated rehearsal practice, just like the original, primarily in relation to the field player – and not just in the sense that Field, like everyone has their problems, has to say what he feels. In fact, it is one of the precious times “The ProBe” indicated that the events of the first season, including a catastrophic experiment in simulated parenthood, have weighed the protagonists. What if fields are so disturbed by his own dysfunction and the attempt by external observers to taxes them, their analysis drives their analysis to increasingly exaggerated actions of one-upsmanship? An irrefutable loner could be sentenced to a life that spied out from outside to do The?

In the final, Fielder seems to be both impressed and calmed down that the rehearsal is already an essential part of the learning process of pilots. The trainees go directly to the passengers from a high-tech simulator, such as the one field visit outside of Las Vegas. He is not only dependent on the obsessively detailed practice or his conviction that these rituals really have him prepared for real life. And in the end there is nothing but the results. When Field (successfully) lands the plane, he is greeted by a cheering amount of actors with whom he has worked with throughout the season. “All of this applause made me feel like having done something important,” he says. These people do not know about his inner turbulence or the pain he has taken to overcome: “As long as you bring everyone down safely, it is all that it takes to be a hero.”

By hiding his true efforts to the end, Fielder gives season 2 of the “The ProB” a less coherent round and maybe a blunt final impact than the first run of the show. But he also pulls out the kind of magic trick that has been a fascinated field player since his teenager. (Field shows his early magicians because he first realized that his bad social skills could be a real obstacle.) The compromise has its own advantages and has a merger of shape and function. Fielder has hidden what he actually intends – what he wants for everything he wants to make more emotional transparency, what he concludes that he actually has to survive the day. When you hold the landing, nobody will take care of how you did it.
