DOWNTOWN BOISE, Idaho – Mulligans in Downtown Boise is keeping the community fed at their annual free Thanksgiving dinner. This year’s was the most popular yet – with around 400 meals served in under an hour.

  • Mulligans hosted its 6th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
  • Over 400 meals were distributed to those in need.

(The following is a transcription of the full broadcast story.)

“If you don’t have a family, you have a family here,” says chef Tim Rogel.

He and his team at Mulligans distribute free Thanksgiving meals to the community.

“Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and green bean casserole—that works, pumpkin pie,” are just a few of the meal options available, Rogel says.

He tells me this is the sixth year in a row they’ve held Thanksgiving dinner, an annual tradition open to all hungry people.

“Our old boss was really about giving back to the community and all those things, so that’s what we’re about and we’re continuing it in her honor, in her name because she passed away a few years ago,” Rogel said.

“I don’t have much family, I have my mom out here which is super nice. So it’s nice to see them on Thanksgiving and then I usually come here and help feed the masses because not only is that humbling but it’s really nice to just see the community,” says Connor Griswold.

He has helped serve meals since the tradition began and says he sees the same people come back year after year.

“There are a lot of people looking forward to it. We usually get calls about two months in advance about whether we’re going to do it again this year and so on,” Griswold said.

“Well, it helps everyone in the neighborhood. So especially the homeless,” says Jacob Swanson.

“People who have nowhere to go, we know there are a lot of homeless people. There are also young people from broken families who are walking on the streets and can’t go anywhere or do anything today, and this place is like a family,” says Buck Wild.

“Seeing everyone getting along, talking and chatting, having a good time and sharing a hot meal is just amazing! “It’s a pretty great thing,” Griswold says.
