Melvin Council Jr. Sign with Kansas

The Guard Melvin Council Jr. has signed a financial aid agreement on basketball in Kansas for the 2025-26 season, KU head coach Bill Self announced today. The Council will have one season of justification on the KU and changes from St. Bonaventure.

“We are very pleased that Melvin Council Jr. signed,” said Self. “He is a 6-4, long, ranked guard who can play with the ball and without a ball. Melvin will remind our fans physically and sporty of Tyshawn Taylor. He is a superior athlete who can achieve the ball and has the potential to be one of the defenders of the elite.

An NABC All District and All-Atlantic 10 third team selection in 2024-25, the Council, scored an average of 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game during his senior season in St. Bonaventure. The native 6-foot 4, £ 185 Rochester, New York, led the A-10 in Steals with 72 and scored in two-digit numbers in 29 games, including all A-10 League competitions. The Council had four games of 20 or more points, including January 4, 2025 in Fordham in Fordham.

The Council played his junior season on Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, where he received the first team of the All-Northeast Conference First Team with an average of 15.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in 2023-24. He also led the Seahawks to the NEC tournament title 2024 and a place in the NCAA tournament to get all-touring ceremonies. Wagner defeated Howard, 54-47, in the NCAA tournament 2024 in Dayton, Ohio, in the 64th round in Charlotte, North Carolina, after North Carolina, 90-62, after North Carolina.

Before Wagner, the Council was a two-time all-America of the NJCAA Division I am Monroe College in 2022 and 2023. In 2022-23, the Council led the Monroe College an average of 18.7 points, 4.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game and it was also an average of 5.6 rebounds per competition. The Council was also appointed to the all touring team of the NJCAA Division I-Basketball championship of the NJCAA basketball championship, where he scored an average of 21.0 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in two games. As a newcomer, the Council on Monroe College achieved an average of 23.8 points and 7.4 rebounds. The Council ended its career in Monroe College with 1,400 points as the leading goal scorer of the school. The Monroe College is in New Rochelle, New York. The Council played high school basketball at the University Prep in Rochester, New York, where he scored an average of 26.4 points per game in his senior season in 2019-20.

The Council is Kansas’ third transfer signature together with Wachen Tre White from Illinois and Jayden Dawson from Loyola-Chicago.
