Melissa Rivers enthusiastic mother Joan receives ‘Maisel’ recognition for ‘Maisel’

Melissa Rivers is enthusiastic that her mother Joan was “finally” quoted as inspiration for “The Wonderous Mrs. Maisel” – after she had revealed that she felt “injured” by the show.

The actress Rachel Brosahhan appears in “Joan Rivers: A Dead Funny All-Star Tribute”, which will be broadcast on NBC on Tuesday at 10 p.m. and streamed on Peacock.

“It was nice that she finally said it,” said Melissa, 57, to page six. “It has nothing to do with Rachel, it has more to do with other people who are involved in the show that they constantly deny them.

“For years, Rachel had told me privately that (Joan) was of course one of the inspirations – and for her finally the world means for me.”

Melissa made her feelings clear about the Amazon Prime hit and explains that the producers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino never turned her to her when she made her show about a clipping young woman who became a stand-up star in the 1960s. There is Joan’s own trajectory for fame, from Greenwich Village Comedy Clubs to one of the first comedians in “The Ed Sullivan Show”.

In 2021, Melissa told the podcast “Behind the velvet with David Yontef”: “I am sure you were worried because the world was so in dispute, but I wish I had received a note and said: ‘Your mother was one of the inspirations for it, and we hope that you enjoy it, and here is a T-shirt.

“Not even to say how it is completely, but to say that she was one of our inspirations,” she continued. “And that’s why I felt so hurt in a strange way,” Oh, it’s Joan, it’s Joan, it is Joan “and yet I never hear about the people who do it or the actors or say anything:” Hey, she was one of my inspiration. “

However, Melissa sent actor Jane Lynch Flowers and a thank you letters “Maisel” when she won an Emmy for her role in the show: “Because she actually recognized my mother.”

The tribute is organized by Tiffany Haddish and includes appearances by stars such as Nikki Glaser, Chelsea Handler and Joel Mchashale.

Joan died in September 2014 at the age of 81 and Melissa said: “I wanted to do this for years and years. She deserves it, she was owed and it just came together at the right time. It is amazing to see all the comics she touched, and she influenced generation.

“I still find it so amazing that she is still relevant for 10 years since she wrote her last joke. Her great fear was not relevant,” she added.

Melissa and Joan were the queens of the comment of the red carpet and was at different times with the “fashion police” from E! Moderated.

“We used to have such a big difficulty,” Melissa admitted to her Snarky comments on celebrity fashion. “But it was never mean.

“Now you can go online and say these things without a face. I find it terrible that people are just too mean and that it becomes an attack rather than a comedy. It is a sad condition.”

But she is less concerned about setting settings to kill comedies.

“The ship is slowly starting to correct itself. Suddenly we can have fun again,” said Melissa. “A lot of it was woke up and so scared. Nobody was allowed to have fun.

“That’s why it’s a perfect time for this special because it is nervous.”
