“Maybe the thought of taking a punishment in Wembley was too much”

Erling Haaland will be sick at the sight of the Wembley Stadium.

The Norway striker had the chance to end his score in the National Stadium on Saturday, but decided to pass on the opportunity against Crystal Palace during Manchester City’s FA Cup defeat.

After the ball was hidden under his arm and had the chance to compensate for the penalty point, astonished Haaland the spectators in the arena and those who watch at home by kissing him and handing over to Omar Marmoush, who saw his stain kick from Dean Henderson saved.

“I thought he would want to take it, but they didn’t speak,” said City Manager Pep Guardiola.

“At that moment for the punishment it is the feeling and how you feel. You decided that Omar was ready to take it.

“Omar took a lot of time when the ball was stopped, so he exerted more pressure on him, and Henderson made a good rescue.”

The former captain of Manchester United, Wayne Rooney, suggested that the event may have come to Haaland and said: “Erling Haaland is a world-class striker, but when we talk about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there is no way to give away this ball.

“This is what distinguishes two players from Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe and these players. They are selfish and want to achieve every game.

“If he misses the chances, I think that they can see that it comes to him and that it affects him.

“Perhaps the thought of taking a punishment in Wembley was too much for him. You never know, he is a person.”

“I knew I would save it” – Henderson because of punishment

Haaland swept everything in front of him in his first season in England and looted 52 goals in 53 games when City called for a Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

But he and his team have now lost in the back-to-back final in Wembley after being beaten by Manchester United last year.

In an interview with BBC Sport this week, Haaland described this season as “terrible”, but said that City had the chance to go well again by lifting silverware against Palace.

You couldn’t do this.

Haaland’s targets exploits have been unsurpassed since his arrival on these banks and although he was missing due to injuries, he still managed to score 30 goals.

But now he did not achieve it in the eight final with City and extended his barren run to six games without finding the network in Wembley.

Making three of his last seven elements may have been in his thoughts.

Former English captain Alan Shearer said: “Under no circumstances does anyone say to me:” You don’t take a punishment today when we get a punishment. “

“Regardless of whether he missed three in one season or whether he was injured, they are fit, they are on the field and should be a game to take the penalty.

“I can’t believe that he has turned around and said to someone else. ‘They take the penalty because I don’t really feel like it.”

Former city defender Micah Richards said: “I know that Erling Haaland’s record in Wembley is not very good, but for him not to take the punishment … He is usually so confident and arrogant.”

Henderson said: “Haaland could be reinforced – I wasn’t sure how to go.

“He existed Marmoush and I knew how he went. I knew I would save it.”

Man City who needs a “reconstruction”

City dominated the opening phase and Haaland had an enthusiastic effort from the inspired Henderson, but Palace met her during the break when Eberechi Eze brought the goal home in the 16th minute, which ultimately won Palace the match.

The defeated opposition players paid the palace of due respect by waiting for the opposition to raise the trophy before leaving the tunnel with their heads.

Haaland, however, hung on the field with his runner -up, who weighed around his neck strongly, and probably thought about how this season went so wrong.

The palace players enjoy the first large trophy in the history of the club, and Haaland’s compatriots celebrated the national day of Norway, but the striker himself had little to cheer.

There was also a guard in the midfield of the city when the departing Kevin de Bruyne could not end his famous career in the club with a trophy, while 19-year-old Argentinian Claudio Echeverri received his debut in the second half.

“This season was a massive disappointment for Manchester City,” said Richards.

“Pep Guardiola spoke about it throughout the season. The players have not fulfilled the levels they have recorded in recent years.

“For City we look at a reconstruction – it is obviously to be seen for everyone – even though they sometimes do really well today.”

Guardiola said: “We didn’t rate, so congratulations to Crystal Palace for victory – we did everything.

“Today we were more aggressive. If you don’t score goals, you won’t win.”

When the ticker strap tanned, the Bee Gees’ Classic ‘Stayin Alive’ pumped out the loudspeakers.

Haaland and his teammates have to do exactly that in the remaining two Premier League games in order to become the top 5 in an unforgettable campaign.
