Man charged with attempted first-degree murder after shooting in Elgin

A 26-year-old Elgin man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and other charges in connection with a shooting earlier this month that sent a man to the hospital.

The Kane County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with attempted first-degree murder (a Class M felony); Aggravated Assault with a Firearm (a Class X Felony); possession of a firearm by a member of a street gang (a Class 2 felony); possession of a firearm while on probation (a Class 2 felony); Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Felony); and aggravated assault causing great bodily harm (a Class 3 felony).

On Tuesday, November 12, at 1:46 p.m., Elgin police officers responded to the 400 block of Douglas Avenue where they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound who was subsequently transported to a local hospital.

The investigation of the incident by investigators from the Major Investigations Division resulted in a large police presence at a residence in the 300 block of Silver Street, where the defendant was taken into custody.
