Luka Modric offers emotional farewell to Real Madrid in front of the final La Liga game

Luka Modrić wrote a long letter to the fans of Real Madrid to give the club that he has called for 13 years.

Despite reporting on the request of the arriving manager Xabi Alonso to maintain his services for at least one further season, it is assumed that Madrid decided against the renewal of Modrić’s contract, and the club confirmed that the veteran middle field player will leave this summer after the FIFA Club World Championship.

The most successful player in his history will be clearly emotional, and Modrić has drawn on social media directly for those who have supported him since participating in 2012.

“It has come,” he started. “The time when I never wanted to come, but that’s football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end … On Saturday I will play my last game in the Santiago Bernabéu.

“I arrived in 2012 with the hope of wearing the jersey of the best team in the world and the ambition, doing great things, but I couldn’t have imagined what came next. Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I am proud to be part of one of the most successful times of the greatest club in history.

“I would like to thank the club sincerely, especially President Florentino Pérez, my teammates, coaches and everyone who helped me during this time.

“Over the years I have experienced incredible moments, apparently impossible comebacks, finals, celebrations and magical nights in Bernabéu … we won everything and I was very happy. Very, very happy.

“But beyond the titles and victories, I wear the affection of all Real -Madrid fans in my heart. I really don’t know how I have supported the special connection with you and how supported, respected and loved, which I felt and still felt. I will never forget every ovation and all gestures of affection that they have shown me.

“I go with a full heart. Full of pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories. And although after the club world champion I will not wear this shirt on the field again, I will always be a real Madrid fan.

“We’ll meet again. Real Madrid will always be my home. For life. Hala Madrid and nothing else.”

Modrić will play his last game in Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday when he said goodbye to La Liga. The 39-year-old will sign a short-term contract for playing at the World Club Championship, but then officially leave Madrid on July 13th.
