Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have a ‘good’ friendship despite not seeing each other ‘often’ (Exclusive)

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele remain close.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Key, 53, opens up about maintaining a friendship with him Key & Peele collaborator, months after expressing that the two don’t see each other “often.”

“Whenever we get a chance to see each other, we do that. Whenever we get the chance,” Key says.

“I really enjoy spending time with him. So when my travels take me to Los Angeles, he’s usually one of the first calls I make. I land and say, ‘Hey buddy, we’re in town,’ and a lot of times we get to have dinner,” he continues.

“Our relationship is like a good friend’s relationship where you pick up where you left off or the little things you shared in the past and just go back to them,” Key adds. “I look forward to seeing him in 2025.”

Key and Peele, 45, first worked together in the mid-2000s when they starred on “Fox.” MADtv. They then launched their own sketch comedy series, which ran from 2012 to 2015.

The duo also produced and starred in the 2016 action comedy KeanuThey appeared together on FX’s first season Fargo and paired characters voiced in 2019 Toy Story 4 and 2022 Wendell & Wild.

But as Key explained to PEOPLE in September 2024, he and Peele haven’t been able to make time for each other much lately — professionally and personally — because “their lives are starting to evolve and go in different directions.”

“Our development, I think, depends on both of our desires,” Key continued. “His wish was to start exploring the horror genre, and my wish was to do more dramatic work, like I had learned to do in school.”

Currently, Key – who collaborated with Jim Beam on the care package “7 Stages of Defeat” – has several projects in the pipeline, while Peele is working on directing another film, his fourth overall.
