Kansa’s agencies warn of nationwide SMS fraud participation

Ikan, Kdot and Kansas DMV

We would like to inform you about nationwide SMS frauds in which fraudsters issue state authorities, including the Kansas Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT).

These text messages incorrectly claim that recipients are in debt unpaid toll fees and randomly sent to individuals in order to steal personal and financial information. Please note that Kansas toll fees are never collected by unwanted texts, immediate messages or e -mails.

Drives is Kansas’ official fee -paying system, which is operated by the Kansas Turnpike Authority. The official communication via unpaid toll or account status guides you to register in your Secure Drives account or contact customer service directly. You will receive this notification when you have set up a Drives account and have registered for notifications, either via self-service channels or when contacting the customer service from Drives. You check your communication settings and can unsubscribe at any time.

What to do if you receive a fraud message:

Don’t click on the left in the text message. Do not indicate any personal or payment information. Delete the message immediately.

SMS frauds like this are successful because they try to quickly horrify people and often refer language like “final communication” or impending punishments.

If you receive a text message in which it is claimed to be unpaid toll fees that you suspect are a fraud, please report to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Internet Crime Center (IC3).

Protecting your information is important. Fraudsters constantly change tactics to use unsuspecting people through misleading text messages. Stay up to date and remain vigilant against these fraudulent attempts.
