Johnson Pond near Salmon, stocked with warm water fish

“We had a unique opportunity to boost the bass and bluegill fishery with these fish, which span multiple size classes from juveniles to adults,” Schoby said. “They will be put to good use and a big thank you to our colleagues in the Clearwater region who helped make this possible.”

The introduction of largemouth bass and bluegill will provide anglers with additional fishing opportunities, particularly during the warmer months when these species are most active. Largemouth bass provide an exciting challenge for anglers, while bluefish offer excellent opportunities for families and young anglers looking for a high-catch fishing experience. Johnson Pond will continue to have rainbow trout.

“I expect trout fishing to be best in the spring and fall when it’s cooler, and the bass and bluegill bite to really pick up in the summer when it warms up,” Schoby said.

Johnson Pond borders the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Eight Mile River Access to the north. Anglers can access the pond by parking at the BLM access point and walking 50 meters to the pond.
