Idaho’s Festival of Lights is scheduled for Saturday in Preston – KVNU

PRESTON – The Idaho Festival of Lights takes place Saturday, Nov. 30, after Thanksgiving. This is Preston’s biggest winter event and is expected to attract hundreds of out-of-towners and relatives wanting to come home for the holidays.

The city known for Napoleon Dynamite has lights all over State Street and in the parks for the city’s annual celebration.

“Michael and Dorothy Lower were named Lamplighter and Queen of Lights,” said Amber Almond, a member of the Festival of Lights committee. They will be prominently displayed at the festival parade. The Lowers are long-time business owners in Preston.

Amber Almond, Amber Alder, Terri Green, Vickie Friedli, Evelyn Rawlins and Preston City Councilor Chris Larsen were on the committee this year and organized the whole thing.

“We’re only having a Saturday party this year,” Almond said. “We have people calling all the time asking if it’s a two-day event and the answer is no. Not until Saturday.”

The festivities begin with the Festival of Trees and Gingerbread Contest, held at 72 S. State Street and 74 S. State Street. Doors open at 10 a.m. and last until 5:30 p.m
