Heavy storms leave traces of damage during the middle Michigan

Lansing, Michigan (Wilx) – A number of heavy storms on Thursday evening and until early Friday morning left Mid -Michigan considerable damage. Numerous trees and power lines are on the road throughout the area and cause road closures and power outages.

Until early Friday morning, more than 200,000 consumers were energy without electricity with over 20,000 Lansing Board of Water and Light customers. DTE Energy did not report so many failures on the east side of the state.

The power lines and trees were closed in the area on Friday morning, including the following:

  • I-496 in Lansing from Pine ST to MLK BLVD. Both traffic in the east and western direction are closed due to the offset power lines in the region.
  • WB M-43 (Grand River Ave) is closed in the Fairview Ave due to demolished power lines.
  • The Canal RD is closed due to numerous dilapidated power lines in both directions between Rickie Street and Davis Hwy in Eaton County.

One of the tougher hits seems to be Eaton County. The National Weather Service crews will examine the damage in Mid-Michigan on Friday to determine whether a tornado has increased to any point.
