Hammonton, NJ, police sergeant charged with official misconduct

It’s one of the most unpleasant things police officers can do to another police officer.

The Atlantic County, New Jersey, District Attorney’s Office announced that it has charged a Hammonton police sergeant with official misconduct.

Earlier this week, on Monday, November 25, 2024, Hammonton Detective Sergeant Robert Zbikowski, 45, of Hammonton, New Jersey, was charged with a variety of serious crimes:

  • Official misconduct in the second degree.
  • Second-degree criminality based on a pattern of official misconduct.
  • Third degree theft by unlawful taking.
  • Fourth degree tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
  • Fourth degree obstruction of justice.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office describes the allegations as follows:

In 2024, the Hammonton City Police Department contacted the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office to inform Zbikowski that he had failed his drug test and tested positive for methamphetamine. During the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that Zbikowski had tampered with and taken evidence of narcotics, including methamphetamine and oxycodone, from the Hammonton Police Department’s evidence room.

The Zbikowski incident is being investigated by the Professional Standards and Accountability Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information leading to the arrest and indictment of people who commit crimes in Atlantic County.
