Grande scratched with injured foot from the Kentucky Derby

play

The Kentucky Derby field 2025 was limited to 19 horses after Grande had been scratched from the race on Saturday.

Churchill Downs said that a foot bloody was the reason for the withdrawal of Grande.

Grande owner Mike Repole said the horse had to do with a slightly cracked heel this week, but the disease improved and the veterinarians made the final decision to draw the horse. Grande, who had 20-1 chances of winning the 151st run of the Kentucky Derby, is trained by Todd Plletcher and was to be ridden by John Velazquez.

“We were very confused throughout the week about clean diagnostics and improvement why they judge the judgment today,” said Role on social media. “Since the race tomorrow and Baeza has already been drawn into the race, we are also shocked and confused why this decision was now made. We did not get a real explanation why Grande was scratched 36 hours before the race.

A squeezed foot was also the cause of Rodriguez, which was trained by Bob Baffert to be scratched out of the race.
