Governor Braun signs law according to which the hospitals of Indiana reduce health prices or fall for non -profit status

Indianapolis (WPTA) – the governor of Indiana, Mike Braun, has signed a law according to which certain hospitals in Indiana reduce their prices or extend their non -profit status.

In January, House Bill 1004 was introduced during the legislative meeting of the General Assembly 2025 of the General Assembly of Indiana.

The legislation written by representative Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne) aimed to reduce the health costs in the state, aim to target the largest non-profit hospitals in Indiana and to force them to reduce prices either on the nationwide average or the status as a non-profit organization and the associated advantages.

The proposed cuts for every hospital were as follows:

  • Ascension St. Vincent: Lower prices by 40.5%
  • Community Health Network: lower prices by 34%
  • Diaconess health system: lower prices by 23%
  • Franciscan health: lower prices by 30%
  • Iu health: reduce prices by 40.6%
  • Parkview Health: Lower prices by 40.8%

HB 1004 moved out of the House of Representatives at the end of February.

The law was officially on April 29, the last day of the legislative session 2025, officially by the Indiana General Assembly.

The non-profit hospitals of the state now have until June 30, 2029 to obtain their overall and outpatient health prices for the average inpatient and outpatient health, which corresponds to the nationwide average or nationwide stage or lose their non-profit status.
