Government to review PIK 2 spatial planning amid land use concerns – Business

The government will reassess the spatial planning of the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 construction project, Agriculture and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid said on Thursday, even though the project has the status of a national strategic project (PSN).

Launched in 2016 under former President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the PSN list includes projects considered crucial to promoting economic growth and improving social welfare in the country. The government provides favorable conditions to advance these projects, including land acquisition and permitting.

Nusron said the ministry is checking the PIK 2 project’s compliance with spatial planning regulations and will later make a recommendation on the continuation of the project, as quoted from Detik.com.

PIK 2 in Tangerang, Banten, is being developed by private real estate group Agung Sedayu Group and will include a race track for national and international motorsport events.

The ministry has hinted that PIK 2 may have issues with regional and provincial spatial plans (RTRW), saying the project also lacks the required detailed spatial plans (RDTR).

Nusron said about 1,500 hectares of the 1,755-hectare PIK-2 project is still classified as protected forest area. Commercial development could only occur, he continued, if these areas were rezoned as convertible forest, changes that would require approval from the Forestry Ministry.
