A woman got a second chance at life at the start of Thanksgiving when a good Samaritan rescued her from an overturned car near the Gulf Freeway and Scott Street exit in Houston’s Third Ward.

Bethrand Ani, the man who came to the woman’s aid, was on his way home when he saw the accident. Despite his initial shock, Ani acted quickly and broke the car window to reach the woman trapped inside.

“It was terrible. I was afraid of the situation, but at that moment I was (shocked). I was confused because I had never seen anything like this right in front of me,” Ani said.

The dramatic rescue occurred when fluids from the car leaked onto the pavement and glass was scattered, creating a chaotic scene.

“I was afraid she might be dead. I prayed, ‘God, please let this person live,'” Ani recalls, relieved that he had arrived in time to help.
