Ex-Celsius CEO asks for a wedding after the conviction

The former CEO of Celsius, Alex Mashinsky, will probably travel regardless of the result of his hearing on May 8 for the wedding of his daughter.

In a submission on May 8th in front of the US district court for the southern district of New York, judge John Koeltl approved an application for Mashinsky between May 26 and 29 from New York to Memphis, Tennessee, for the wedding of his daughter. The approval was available in public docket on May 8, but seemed to have been removed at the time of publication.

Judge Keltl will find out in a hearing on May 8, whether Mashinsky is serving a prison period after a plea contract with prosecutors.

Celsius’ former CEO seemed to go to court in 2024 until his lawyers lost an application that his indictment was rejected. In December he was guilty of raw material fraud and a fraudulent system to manipulate the price of the native tokens of the platform, CEL.

Mashinsky has had a bond of $ 40 million free of charge since July 2023, whereby the trip outside of certain areas requires approval for judicial approval, for example the removal of around 900 miles (1,500 kilometers) between New York and Memphis. At the time of publication, it was unclear whether it would arise for the authorities.

Potentially decades ago in prison

The prosecutors asked the judge to impose a 20-year prison sentence from Celsius’ former CEOS CEO, while the lawyers of Mashinsky are serving it in prison for a year and a day. The hearing could be a Bellwether how criminal matters could change with cryptocurrency as part of the Trump administration, which has appointed the preliminary US lawyer for the court district.

On April 17, Mashinsky’s lawyers submitted a letter from his eldest daughter to support her father before the conviction. The letter claims that Mashinsky does not deserve a “serious punishment” and wrote that he “never set off to steal from anyone”. Other members of his family wrote similar letters.

The same court district supervised the conviction of the former FTX CEO Sam “SBF” Bankman, who is currently serving in prison for 25 years.
