Estonia’s Foreign Minister warns Russia in the Ukraine secretary

Tallinn, EstoniaEstonia’s top diplomat believes that Russia’s war against Ukraine goes far beyond the front.

“This is not about Europe. I think that for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and Russia are the main enemy for Russia, such as historical,” Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna told Fox News in an exclusive interview in Estonia’s capital Tallinn.

“He has the plan to restore the Soviet Empire, and that is exactly what it is doing. Ukraine is just an example,” he added.

Nine years ago, Tsahkna, who at that time served as Defense Minister of Estonia, observed when 120,000 Russian soldiers were directly over the border and were ready to penetrate his country in just 48 hours.

“Now these troops are gone. They have been sent to Ukraine and are literally dead,” said Tsahkna on Wednesday from the Foreign Ministry, where he now serves as Estonia’s top diplomat.

“At the moment I don’t expect a kind of military aggression against NATO because Russia in Ukraine is doing power to be honest,” added Tsahkna. “They are very weak economically, but of course we see that Russia is being prepared again.”

Estonia does not take any risk.

In order to ward off a possible invasion in the eastern flank of NATO, Estonia recently announced that a goal that President Donald Trump would spend over 5% of his GDP for defense next year in all NATO countries.

On Wednesday, Estonia officially welcomed the arrival of six Himars satellite rocket systems that were manufactured in the United States. It is a weapon that was used effectively in Ukraine and destroyed the goals up to 186 miles away.

“As Estonians, we have created the rule that if the USA invests 1 US dollar, we add 10 US dollars. And all of this goes back to the US economy and we get the skills,” said Tsahkna.

In the past few weeks, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Poland have announced that they would withdraw from the Ottawa convention that prohibited the use of anti-personnel landmines. Russia, which is not a party of the contract, has used mines in today’s Ukraine, which is now occupied.

Estonia is a small country of 1.3 million people in Eastern Europe with an area that is about twice the size of New Jersey. It divides a 214 miles long border with Russia.

Since Russia started his full invasion of Ukraine into Ukraine more than three years ago, Estonia has cut off all energy imports from Russia. Today it gets 80% of its natural gas from the USA

Not all countries were defiant. The 27-nation-European Union, in which Estonia is a member, has only reduced 60% of its energy imports from Russia. According to the Kiel Institute, the European Union spent more for Russian oil and gas than the help of Ukraine last year.

The Kremlin also wages war on a different front. “Russia uses the religion of the Church as an instrument for its own political goals,” said Tsahkna.

The Foreign Minister also burdened Russia’s three -day ceasefire for his celebrations on May 9, which marked the end of the Second World War. “It’s not that serious,” replied Tsahkna.

Since the end of 2023, almost a dozen underwater cables have been cut in the Baltic Sea and in the Gulf of Finland. Russia is suspected, but “it is very difficult to say,” said Tsahkna. Over 14 people from Russia’s so -called shadow fleet were arrested. China is suspected of performing at least one act of sabotage.

NATO used warships off the Estonia coast in January, and since then no cables have been cut off, the officials Fox said on Tuesday on two ships in the Gulf of Finland.

When asked about the prospect of a ceasefire and a possible end of hostility in Ukraine, Tsahkna replied with a warning:

“President Trump said very clearly that he wants to have peace.

Tsahkna does not believe that Putin would ever use nuclear weapons and describes such a step as “political suicide”.

“He is only brutal, but sometimes from the western part of the world we are too weak,” added Tsahkna. “Putin plays with our fears.”
