Emilia Romagna GP: Lando Norris turns tables to Oscar Piatri to set the practice three pace before qualifying | F1 news

Lando Norris agreed to use his first pole position since 2025 on Saturday at the Emilia Romagna Grand Grand Prix by defeating Oscar Piatri and Max Verstappen in the last training session.

After Norris had been shaded in both training units in both training units on Friday in both training sessions on Friday Sky Sports F1.

Norris’ fastest time on the soft tires of 1: 14,897 was exactly a tenth of a second faster than Piatri, although the best effort of the latter came in his second round on Pirelli’s newest terrain when the performance from the tire would not have been as strong.

The Max Verstappen from Red Bull was in third place 0.181, although he put his best time on the slower medium -sized connection after he had not improved the red -marked softs.

The Dutchman has the McLaren at the last two Grands Prix and three of the last four, and Red Bull has again improved how to deal with his RB21 after a difficult start in practice.

Verstappen was not the only driver who set his fastest time to the theoretically slower media, with Pirelli’s new C6 tire -the fastest connection in the Italian manufacturer area that is available in Imola this weekend as difficult to keep the corrected operating window for the entire 3.05 mile -Mola -LAP.

The route conditions are a bit cooler on Saturday with a cloudier imola, but the McLarens seem to have an advantage again if the responsibility is on tire maintenance.

Italy’s own Kimi Antonelli, however, made a late improvement in the softs for Mercedes to make fourth place, although this was half a second behind Norris’ time, in which McLaren remained clearly the team after a clean sweep of two to two ends in training.

Liam Lawson from Racing Bulls turned out his car during the last practice at Imola in a dramatic way

Charles Leclerc was once again the leading Ferrari driver in fifth place with Lewis Hamilton, who had to fight brakes on Friday, three tenths after a session that included a mistake in the second Rivazza when he went into the gravel.

Williams ‘fine form continued and Carlos Sainz took sixth place and Albon Neez, while Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar bounced down from his Friday accident in order to take seventh place for the seventh Mercedes of George Russell.

“Digest a lot after this session,” said Sky Sports F1’s Anthony Davidson.

“In which tires do you want to be in the qualification?

“One thing that has remained consistent are that the two McLarens are at the forefront. Not with a huge lead and Verstappen in third place has made its best lap time on the middle tire.

“Can Red Bull get enough performance out of the car on the softs, which looked like she was missing?

“We could see a further efforts in Max Verstappen’s Suzuka style.”
