West Terre Haute, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – If you pay too much for your energy bill, Duke Energy’s aid program could be for you.

The program currently helps the residents of West Terre Haute.

Andy Downey, Duke Energy program manager, said that it finds areas that are low and high energy consumption with low energy consumption and result in a number of measures to support energy costs.

“The first is what we call our 1.0 measures,” said Downey. “This will be your door -Weeps, Weather -Strip kits on doors, a year of a stove filter and some others. They are up to 16 measures that we offer on this 1.0.”

Some residents qualify for the sentence of 2.0 measures.

“If we are what we consider as an energetic user, then they qualify for what we call 2.0 measures,” said Downey. “This will be a crew that will occur for attic insulation, air sealing, sewer sealing or intelligent thermostats, depending on the house.”

David Elkins, President of the West Vigo Community Center, is known from many in the local community. That is why he has teamed up with Duke Energy to combine the needy of the residents.

“I go out with them and talk to the residents because they know my face a little in the city. So it is easier for them to go to the door when I’m there and talk to them,” said Elkins. “I’m just a familiar face.”

Elkins said he had a specific goal for West Terre Haute.

“I try to get 80% of the community to get involved,” said Elkins. “This is the goal of the community center to help both Duke and our community.”
