Davidson leads Richmond in the first round #a10MBB; Progress, to meet Billikens

Washington, DC-Reed Bailey and Connor Kochera together for 47 points, and the Davidson Wildcats held 69-65 on Wednesday afternoon to find 10 men’s basketball tournament in the Capital One Arena at the Atlantic.


The 12th Wildcats, which now 17-15, will compete against Saint Louis in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 2 p.m. against Saint Louis on the fifth, while Richmond No. 13 ended the season 10-22.


Bailey scored a game with a game of 25, while he navigated some delayed bad difficulties while Kochera brought 22.


The wildcats, who swept the season series with the spiders, had to entertain the route to secure victory and did.


After Richmonds Collin-Tanner cut the Wildcats leadership to 65-62 with a 49.5 seconds, Bailey converted a layup to push the lead back to five. Artis White Jr. met another spider tread to make it 21.3 seconds before 67-65, but after he had missed a potential starting shot in the last seconds, Hunter Adam recovered the Miss and was fouled with two ticks. Adam buries the resulting free throws to win them.


The first 20 minutes showed four ties and seven lead changes before the cats closed the first half with seven straight points to lead 34-32 during the break. Before her sprint, Richmond used a 13:3 run to achieve a lead of 30 to 24.


Bailey (14), Kochera (13) and Zach Laput (7) combined for all 34 from Davidson’s score during this period. Laput ended the afternoon with 11 points and was the only other wild cat in double -digit figures.


White scored 17 and Mike Walz added 16 points and 10 boards to guide Richmond.

• As No. 5 of the tournament, Saint Louis deserves an bye in the first round and will open the Nach season game on Thursday.
• The Billikens enter 18-13 in total and 11: 7 in the league game and won four of their last five games.
• Davidson and Saint Louis met once in the regular season, and on February 25th the Billikens led in Davidson 57-56.
• Three Billikens received the honors of the A-10 night: Wache Gibson Jimerson (first team, all-academic), Avila (second team) and Isaiah Swope (third team).
• Jimerson scored 18.3 points per game as a guard.
• Avila is one of the most versatile men with an average of 17.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
• Swope, a guard, scores 16.4 points per game and is one of the league leaders with 4.4 templates per competition. Swope had 23 points in the matchup with Davidson last month.
