Dana Perino by Fox News Channel about the success

Fortunately, it was not much in the world these days, so that the podcast guest this week had all the time in the world to sit down, chat and relax.

Of course that’s not true, but we got it anyway! The very busy Dana Perino organizes two daily programs on the Fox News Channel (America’s newsroom And The five), Mentors across the country and writes leadership books, everything in their non -existent free time.

Your new book, I wish someone had told meIs now out and she has joined us to share her career council to everyone who dreams, her developing definition of success and the only habit she wishes she could break. You can listen to the entire episode here or on your platform of your choice and read the highlights below that have been processed for length and clarity.

I love the title of your new book and I have to wonder if it is about the fact that someone would have warned you if you sit down next to Gregfeld for the first time 11 years ago.
More about Greg Gutfeld later! One of the things on this new book I like is this connection to my mother. My previous book, Everything will be fineWas specific for young women. I sent it to my mother before it came out and she said, “Wow, I wish someone had told me these things.” So this is an indication of my mother, who came to the workforce after college in 1965. These women paved the way for the rest of us. They were pioneers in the workforce.

Why did you decide to write this book?
I do a lot of mentoring. And I realized that the advice that I have spoken to Mentees over the years has developed. So now it is not: “What should I study in college?” It is “How can I get the advertising?” “How do I deal with my finances?” “How do I start planning retirement?” So I knew that I had to make a refreshing, updated mentoring book, but I also knew that I absolutely didn’t have all the answers. So I went to all sorts of friends and colleagues, people I knew all my life, from my college with people to people like Greg Gutfeld, who is funny, but also has a great and wise advice.

How do you define success? And has it developed over the years?
I grew up in Wyoming and Colorado and don’t come out of money, I can’t get out of politics. I had ambition. I wanted to achieve things. And I made my twenty height away. And one of my great hopes for people we would listen to this podcast or if you are ready to read the book that you would see that if you are an educated American, you have already won the great lottery of life. Then you can decide what you want to do with it. My success was initially: “Can I pay my bills?” And then it becomes: “Can I help people?” And then it is about finding serenity, learning with the continued wish and being curious. And be grateful.

What advice do you really notice?
My preferred advice in this book is that the decision to be loved is not a career limitation decision. Almost all people I have mentor ask me: “How can I meet someone?” Or some of them have long -distance relationships, but they don’t want to leave their job. I understand that. But I am firmly convinced that it does not have to be a career limitation decision if you decide that you want to be with this person. I served as a spokeswoman for the White House in the government of George W. Bush and left the Capitol Hill to live with my husband in England. That didn’t ruin my career. In fact, so much of what I achieved, I had Peter to help myself. So I would only want to emphasize people who make the jump.

What is a habit for which you are grateful and you wish you could rely on?
I am very good at waking up and going ready immediately. I have no problem. I don’t need coffee. I wish I could break my telephone habit. I recently developed a thumb injury by scrolling on my phone. So that’s a habit that I want to break!
