Brooklyn Gas Main break: National network workers seriously injured; Houses in Bay Ridge evacuated

Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (WABC) – The crews are in Brooklyn at the crime scene of a main gas break, which seriously injured a worker and forced the evacuation of an entire block of houses on Thursday, according to officials.

The FDNY says

According to the National Grid, her crews carried out repair work at a natural gas transmission head in the street when an incident occurred, which led to the release of gas.

Officials say that an employee was seriously injured and taken to the Lutheran hospital.

National network crews work with emergency services and city authorities on site and have closed the gas. They say that valves were closed at both ends of the affected section of the main department and the leak is under control.

FDNY officials say that all residents of the 86th Street between Colonial Road and Ridge Boulevard were evacuated.

No additional injuries were reported.
