Belgium coach Garcia reveals the qualification squads of the World Cup

The Belgian trainer Rudi Garcia announced his squad on Tuesday for the start of the qualification campaign of the World Cup. The left -back Diego Moreira in Strasbourg, who came through the youth ranks in Portugal, is new in the selection.

Garcia’s squad includes Stalwarts like Thibaut Courtois, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku. The Red Devils begin their campaign on June 6th with an away game against North Macedonia, followed by their second qualification game against Wales on June 9.

Newcomer Moreira was born in Liège and was once a Belgian youth international, but he has played consistently for the Portuguese youth teams in recent years. After the 20-year-old had never been called for the senior team, he was able to switch international loyalty to Belgium.

“I see him as a varied player”

“Diego is a player with a double nationality, but he has now selected Belgium,” said Garcia on Tuesday. Moreira is listed as a defender in the 26-man squad. “I see him as a versatile player who is currently playing left -back for Strasbourg, but can also play in front. He had a very good season in Strasbourg,” said Garcia.

Lavia not called

Something surprisingly, Roméo Lavia was not called. In the last minutes of a 3-2 friendship victory in Germany at the end of March 2023, he was a replacement for the injury in Germany. He recently played four games in a row for Chelsea.
