Apple wants to renovate a popular stadium for Vision Pro streaming

Although it may not have met sales expectations Apple Vision Pro is still being worked on intensively in one way or another. Apple apparently wants that reach a deal with Real Madrid: permission to integrate streaming technology into the ongoing renovations of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

According to Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, the stadium is regularly no longer full and the solution that Pérez has considered is live streaming of games in XR (Augmented reality). Although he mentioned streaming games to some type of glasses, it’s likely that this will only be possible with that VisionPro.

Apple initially wanted to develop AR glasses – similar to Meta Orion – however, was limited by current technology and I opted for the Vision Pro instead. With the Orion prototype costing around $10,000, it’s highly unlikely that Apple will release a similar product any time soon.

Live streaming of sports is one of the few use cases that could move forward VisionPro sales in the future. Apple’s “Immersive Video” format is basically 180-degree recorded content presented in 3D. The company has worked with various developers to create immersive video content for its headset. And while most of it is pretty short, it’s promising that the library is growing. Former head of Oculus Hugo Barra – who called this Vision Pro, an over-engineered development kit – also recognized the potential for live sports on Apple’s headset. Sports fans would be willing to spend a lot of money if they could stream sports from the comfort of their own home and feel like they were actually sitting in the front row. Add in the option to stream it with friends and family and you have a winning combination, ridiculous price or not.

Details are sparse, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this investment pays off. If successful, more stadiums around the world for all sports could be equipped with this technology. And by the time the Meta Orion becomes commercially viable, all the groundwork will be in place.
