Alabama’s children join the Jefferson County’s Sheriff at Gun Lock Giveaway Initiative

Birmingham, ala. (WBRC) -A profit -lock win initiative that welcomed a new partner in 2024 from the Sheriff office of the Jefferson County and the Ministry of Health of Jefferson County on Thursday.

Alabama’s children with the support of Be Smart for Kids will connect the 90-day summer initiative, which offers residents free weapon locks and weapons security.

The aim of the initiative is to protect children and families by reducing the risk of firearms into non -authorized hands.

“As a parents and community leader, it is our responsibility to protect our children – themselves from themselves,” said Sheriff Mark Pettway, Sheriff of Jefferson County. “Closed weapons prevent tragedies. I am striving to protect every child.”

The giveaway was started during the Memorial Day holiday weekends in 2024. Last year, families in Jefferson County were given away hundreds of free weapon locks.

This year, this expansion will help to achieve more people with the help of Alabama children and the campaign for children.

“A simple weapon lock can save a life,” added Dr. David Hicks from the Jefferson County Ministry of Health. “I remind you of it: secure your firearms so that our children never have to pay the price for a moment.”
