AI models can use human-like emotions when communicating to empathize with users

AI models such as ChatGPT, CoPilot and Gemini use anthropomorphism when communicating with humans. Anthropomorphism refers to giving machines or animals human characteristics, and AI chatbots use it to make communication more intimate. They pick up on different communication patterns and words that people use and help them have conversations that are more coherent, contextualized, and even express some emotions.

Before the advent of AI, language and communication were only the preserve of human abilities, but chatbots are making us think about that. People are largely subjective and this shows in their communication as they form opinions while talking about various events. They use words like “we” and “I” to represent their individuality. To refer to the second person, people most often use words like “you,” which builds a relationship between the two people participating in the conversation.

Most of the time, chatbots do not use intersubjectivity. The user can refer to themselves as “I,” but the chatbots do not use pronouns like “I” and “you.” It serves only as a guide or guide and provides helpful answers in a third-person writing style. But in a different scenario, such as short commands and responses, AI chatbots also use pronouns like “you” to address users. When chatbots use pronouns to address the user, it feels personal and makes the user feel like both the AI ​​and themselves are actively involved in the conversation. Phrases or empathy for users have also been used to acknowledge that they can feel user emotions.

When AI chatbots use first-person pronouns, users become aware that the AI ​​can empathize with them and users feel more involved in the conversation. You may not think it’s wrong for AI models to display some identity or personality, but this can have long-term effects on users. They may find it difficult to distinguish between an AI conversation and a human conversation. We may even begin to believe that AI is a conscious being, and we may experience difficulties in our real-world relationships. Human interactions are all about different emotions. Therefore, communicating with an AI model that doesn’t even feel emotions for long can change our perception of communication.
