North Korea investigation of failed start of the warship – DW – 23.05.2025

North Korea initiated an investigation into an accident that took place during the start of his second Marine Czerstrefer week, the state media reported on Friday after the chairman Kim Jong and classified the incident as criminal negligence.

On Thursday, Pjöngjang reported that the sections of the newly built 5,000-ton marine tanksters were put down during the ship’s starting ceremony on Wednesday in the northeast of Chongji.

The damage occurred early on the strict distance of the ship due to transport laundering, according to the state media.

What did North Korean officers say about the accident?

The country’s central military commission, Hong Kil Ho, the manager of Chongji, the shipyard, called in with investigations into the incident, said Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Friday.

“Regardless of how good the condition of the warship is, the fact that the accident is an unforgivable criminal act remains unchanged, and those who are responsible for it can never escape their responsibility for crime,” the official news agency quoted the Commission.

Kim – who observed the start – blew up military officers, scientists and throwing operators for the incident, which he described as a “criminal act through absolute negligence”.

Damage “not seriously”

North Korea had previously described the incident as “serious”, but on Friday KCNA said that an “underwater and internal inspection of the warship confirmed that in contrast to the first announcement, it did not make any holes in the butt of the warship”.

“The Hull Starboard was scratched and a certain amount of sea water flowed through the rescue channel into the strict section,” said the state news agency.

It added that the damage to the ship was “not serious”.

The report states that it would take almost 10 days to repair the ship’s side.

The ratings could not be verified due to the reserved nature of the isolated nation.

The South Korean military used to say that it is similar to the size and scale of the ship and the scale of the Choe Hyon, a ship of the destroyer class that contained the north last month.

Analysts say it is North Korea’s largest and most advanced warship.

Seoul claims that the Choe Hyon could have developed with Russia’s help, possibly in exchange for North Korea, who use thousands of soldiers to support Moscow with Ukraine in his war.
