Band cut to open the fishing bridge

Pulaski County, Ky. (Wymt) – A busy bridge over the Cumberland -lake was reopened on Thursday, May 15th.

A ribbon cut has signaled the completion of an $ 8.6 million project on the Fishing Creek Bridge to Ky-80 between Somerset and Nancy.

The bridge had been closed for more than six months.

The bridge was first built in 1951. That was near the time when the lake was formed, but it needed big repairs on his deck.

Officials said that the project modernized the structural components and at the same time retained its historical integrity.

Rocky Adkins, the manager of governor Andy Beshear, was present for the reopening.

“And I think it really sets the standard that when people work together, they advise what, great things happen,” said Adkins. “This was a recommendation made by the governor and approved by the legislator.”

The first traffic crossed the bridge shortly before 11 a.m.

Officials said there are still small work under the structure, but the traffic can flow freely again on time for the busy summer of lake season.

Work to end the bridge started in October 2024. It was closed on November 11, 2024 and it took a few weeks longer than expected.

As so often, they found that there is a stronger deformation in infrastructures in the ground rays, ”said Rep. Josh Branscum (R-Russell Springs).
