In a league that is known for their aspiring stars and the international flair, only a few players made such thundering ‘Chucky’ Lozano so thundering.

The 29-year-old attacker, who was the first proven player on the expansion page, conquered MLS in a storm. In just 639 minutes on the field – just over seven full games – Lozano achieved impressive four goals and six templates. This is a goal post every 64 minutes, an astonishing rate that brings him into the elite of the league.

Lozano had established himself as San Diego’s Talisman until the 11th matchday. His 10 combined goals and templates not only lead the club, but also place it among only three players in MLS in order to reach double -digit digits at the beginning of the season. Only San Joses Cristian Espinoza (11) and Portland’s Antony (10) share this honor.

Together with the Danish winger Anders Dreyer, who delivers nine contributions, Lozano forms one of the strongest attacking duo in the league. They join the San Jose Tandem of Espinoza and Chicho Arango as the only teammate, each with at least nine gear participation – a rare performance for an expansion page.

MatchDay 11 was a statement from Lozano, which in the 20th and 27th minute achieved a clip in the first half in a 5-0 sausage from FC Dallas. He only became the fifth player in the history of MLS history to achieve at least four goals and four templates in his first eight appearances for an expansion club.

Later in the same game, he added two templates and was only the fourth player, who scored two goals and two templates in a single game for an expansion team of the debut season. The last to do this? None other than the Mexican fellow human beings Carlos Vela in 2018.

Lozano’s effect will not only be felt in San Diego, but also up to the offices of the Mexican national team. After the last appearance for El Tri in a 2-0 defeat against the USA in the final of the Concacaf Nations League 2024 against the United States, Lozano is now hard to return to the Gold Cup of this summer.

“I always try to contribute to the team,” Lozano told Fox Sports. “With regard to the national team, as I said, I am available and would be very happy to return. I just have to continue working on being in the best possible form.”

With its current form, returning to the national setup can be a question When as If. At the moment, the San Diego fans enjoy every electrifying minute of Chucky’s journey -one that quickly becomes one of the most exciting stories in the 2025 campaign of MLS.
