After continuing rain and some floods in the DC area on Tuesday, Wednesday morning, milder and warmer weather, but the chance of rain and storms remains.

7News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Veronica Johnson told WTOP that some scattered storms could resume in the afternoon and evening, with the chance to damage winds and some additional floods.

“Your first alarm weather team, we’re going with a stormmal arm,” said Johnson. “And with the potential for a few higher winds we were able to see some broken trees. So it has to remain aware of the weather again.”

A flood warning applies until 9:30 a.m. for Tänke North and West Maryland

The temperatures will continue to rise for the rest of the week, with maximum stands on Thursday and Friday at 80 a.m. – and the storms are expected to continue until the end of the week.

“It was only on Sunday that when a front comes in will we finally clear the humidity and receive a reset of the atmosphere,” said Jordan Evans Jordan Evans with 7news.

The showers offer persistent drought in the DC area an urgently needed relief. According to the National Weather Service, the rain started for the first time on Monday evening and led to floods in parts of Fairfax County, which lasted until early Wednesday morning.

In Allegany County in the northwest of Maryland, two primary schools had to be evacuated due to floods.

Jonathan Dayton, spokesman for the Potomac Fire Company No. 2, told WTOP that the water level was more than one foot high against the main entrance door of the Westernport Elementary School.

“Definitely a very chaotic situation,” said Dayton. “You can see two, three, four … cars in the parking lot in the pictures that were only floating due to high waters.”
