Trump’s official says 10% tariffs will stay with themselves

The US President Donald Trump holds a table in addition to the US Minister of Trade Howard Lutnick when Trump delivers comments on tariffs for tariffs on April 2, 2025 in the Rosengarten of the White House in Washington, DC.

Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnick said on Sunday that the 10% base rate for imports from other countries will probably “be” repeated for the foreseeable future “and President Donald Trump’s comments from days earlier.

“We expect a 10% basic tariff for the foreseeable future,” Lutnick told Dana Bash from CNN about “State of the Union”.

The trade secretary rejected the idea that consumers would pay increased costs through the tariffs and insisted that companies and countries would pay.

However, the data indicates that companies are already trying to pass on the costs to consumers, and the confidence of the consumer has fallen in the weeks since the President’s announcement of the President’s tariff on April 2. The prices of some household items have also already been impressed.

“Companies, their task is to sell to the American consumer and products produced in Germany will no longer have this tariff, so foreigners must finally keep up,” said Lutnick.

Lutnick’s comments came days after Trump said from the White House that the tariff rate of 10% would probably be the floor for trade transactions, and the rate could be “much higher” for some countries.

The United States made a trade agreement with the United Kingdom last week, but the 10% base tariffs still apply to most of the US imported ones that were imported

Trump also suggested that the 10% base number for products from Great Britain is a “low number”.

“You did a lot,” said Trump about the United Kingdom.

“Some will be much higher because they have massive trade surpluses,” he said too.
