Giro d’Italia 2025: Josh Tarling wins the first Grand Tour phase when Primoz Rooglic takes the lead on the second stage

The time trial specialist Tarling completed the course in 16 minutes seven seconds and was to end with a painful waiting time for 58 drivers, including other stage favorites and overall candidates.

“I can’t believe it, I’m so happy,” said Tarling.

“The wait was not nice, I don’t want to do it again, it was a long day for 13 km.”

Tarling is now the youngest winner of a time trial in Giro history and has a chance for a further time trial on the 10th stage on May 20.

The Great Britain’s Ethan Hayter was back on stage, 14 seconds to trace Tarling.

Although he missed the stage victory, 2023 Giro Champion Roglic, 35, won time about his rivals for the title.

Spain’s Juan Ayuso is now on Roglic for 16 seconds, the Italian Antonio Tiberi further back for nine seconds.

British twins Simon and Adam Yates, Egan Bernal von Ecuador, Richard Carapaz and Colombia’s Egan Bernal, are down on Roglic for over 30 seconds, but a lot will climb in the three -week stage race.

Pedersen finally went out and almost captured the leader’s jersey, missed two seconds when he took the seventh, 11 seconds back Roglic.

A hilly 160 km route on the third stage on Sunday, which begins and ends in Vlore, marks the end of the race in Albania before moving to Italy after the rest day on Monday.
