Pope Leo Reisen’s brothers after his historical election to Rome to achieve a reunion

Just a few days after history as the first American Pope, the native Pope Leo XIV, Leo XIV, prepares for reunion with his siblings in Rome, where his brother John Prevost will join him in order to celebrate this unprecedented moment for the Catholic Church and Chicago.

Pope Leo was elected after the papal conclave of 2025 on Thursday, with the native of Dolton being the first American -born Pope of the Church in the history of the church.

The unexpected trip to Rome marks the fifth time that Prevost traveled to the Italian capital. Two of these trips were with his brother, who is now the global leader of the Catholic Church.

Prevost said NBC Chicago that he informed his brother about the trip in a short call.

“I told him we would come. He said,” Oh, okay, “said Prevost.

Prevost reflected the pride that was associated with his brother’s historical performance while recognizing the challenges. He noticed that his parents were “happy and enthusiastic” about Pope Leo’s role.

“That is the thing … look at the ‘first’ that we are here. First from the United States, first from Chicago,” said Prevost.

In terms of his plans during the visit, Prevost said that much remains in the air.

“We are waiting to see that we should eat for lunch, we should go somewhere. We can travel to a special place with the Pope and we will just find out. Because we are only here until Tuesday,” said Prevost.

Prevost said he had no intention of staying for the installation of Pope Leo.
