Jannik Sünder does not reuse in the Internazionali Bnl d’Italia in Rome with brave predictions, but with a silent curiosity and a sense of the purpose.

The 23-year-old Italian will start at his first event since the winning of the Australian Open in January after concluding a three-month period of inadmissibility in a resolution contract with WADA. While the anticipation is based on his return to capital, Sünner, who never exceeded the quarter -finals at the Italian ATP Masters 1000, keeps his expectations of a minimum.

“It is generally a very, very low expectation tournament, who faces the Mariano Navone or Wild Card Federico Cina in his opening game.” For me, the full feedback is missing where my level is. That will come slowly over time. After the game of the first round, I will have a better picture of myself, where I am.

“It is again a very strange feeling at the beginning to be together with so many people and attention. But it’s nice to be back, I and my team are very happy.”

Despite his absence from the ATP tour, Sinner retained his place as No. 1 player in the PIF ATP ranking. The Italian, who remains undefeated in his previous 21 games at tour levels, claims that it was not thrown in the tour process because his colleagues continue to build momentum.

However, Sinner kept an eye on the PIF ATP Live race to Turin, where he is currently in fourth place after claiming his third big title at the Australian Open.

“To be honest, I hardly looked at a game, especially at the beginning,” said Sünner about his absence. “Of course I saw the results because it is normal, but the tennis itself doesn’t have so much to see. I started again from Madrid, tried to learn and then understand some of the players who are very interesting.

“For me, the most important thing is the race to Turin that gives you a better picture of how players are at this moment. Now I’m in the position that I am, happy, but I would be happy, even if I am No. 3 or No. 4 in the world, to be honest, I’m just happy to be here again. I am happy to play in front of the fans again.”

Everything adds up

The fans in Rome were forced to wait 24 months for the return of sinners to the capital after he had withdrawn from last year’s tournament with a hip injury. The 23-year-old was not surprisingly greeted when he went on Monday to the press conference on Monday over the bridge in the Foro Italico.

According to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Sinner has a 9-5 record in Rome, with his best result in his quarter-finals run in 2022 when he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas. After the raffle ceremony, the Italian is sown to hire a quarter-final collision with Casper Ruud, which is freshly stressed by the stresses of his first Masters 1000 trophy in Madrid.

The 19-time master at tour level, Sinner, will try to quickly build a rhythm if he goes into the rest of the European sound court swing.

“(You were) very long months, but I was happy to share some great moments with my family with my friends,” said Sünd. “We practiced very hard, especially in the gym at the beginning and came back to court.

“It was good, but I could have the feeling that I haven’t played for a long time. The body still has to adapt, the bubbles in their hands … they have not come back because they are no longer used to it, but everything is good, I am only very happy, very curious to see where I am.”

According to his media tasks, Sünner gave the fans a look at the preparation that took place behind the scenes. Met with a choir by “Ole, Ole, Ole, Sünder” from the humming crowd in Campo Centrale, the home favorite who was practiced with Jiri Lehecka in the world No. 38.

While there was inevitable signs of rust, including a framed forehand that was sent to the upper stocks during warming, sinners also triggered his brand -rich power with a flood of earth strokes. Nevertheless, Lehecka could go with sinners during the training set, and it was the Czech player who first broke through for a 4: 3 lead.

Nevertheless, the Italico remained in hysteria. “We love you, Jannik,” called an Italian teenager and summarized the mood.

Sinner has established a deep connection with the Italian public in the past two years, especially after he reached the first player from his country in June 2024 as 1 in the history of the PIF ATP ranking and Italy led Italy to successive Davis Cup titles in 2023-24.
