Former IU coach Mike Woodson reports a top candidate for NBA Assistant Job -The Daily Hoosier

According to a report, Mike Woodson may not be ready to retire.

He is a leading candidate who becomes Doug Christie’s top assistant at the Sacramento Kings, sources tell Sam Amick by The Athletic.

It was announced that 67-year-old Woodson had resigned from his IU post in February. He trained the rest of the 2024-25 season. He trained the Hoosiers for four seasons and ended with an 82-53 record, including a 41-39 mark in the big ten. His Indiana teams made the NCAA tournament twice.

Woodson trained in the NBA for 25 years before he came to Indiana in 2021. In his last stop in the league, he worked as a co -trainer at the Knicks.

From 2004 to 2010 he set a record of 206-286 as head coach of the Hawks and took over the team from 13 to 69 to 53:29 last year in his first year.

Woodson was hired by the Knicks in 2011 and promoted head coach in the middle of the season. He was 109-79 in two and a half years before it was released after the 2013/14 season.

Woodson started his coaching career as an assistant at Bucks in 1996. In addition to his two tours in New York, he also worked as an assistant for the Cavaliers, Sixers, Pistons and Clipper.

He played in 11 NBA games for six teams after he was selected by the Knicks in the first round of the 1980 draft. Woodson was in the first Kings team to play in Sacramento.
