Stan Wawrinka achieved his best victory on Thursday this season with PIF ATP ranking at the Open Aix Provence Crédit Agricole, an ATP Challenger 175 event in France.

The Swiss may be 40 years old, but he turned the clock back to displace top seeds and Alexei Popyrin of the World No. 26 with 6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 1 to secure his place in the quarter-finals.

“Hard match, never easy to play against Alexei, the last two games he hit me, so it was a big challenge today,” said Wawrinka, who is a Wild Card in Aix-en-Provence. “I am happy to get through in three sets. Quick conditions, today it was important to be aggressive, try to push him back a little, and I’m super happy that I did it.”

Next on Friday it will be the experience against the youth when Wawrinka faces Nishesh Basavareddy on the 20th birthday of the American’s 20th birthday. Basavareddy passed Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-5, 7-5, which marked the second victory of the #NextGenatp star on Clay at the Challenger level or higher this week.

Previously, Borna Coric defeated the sixth seed Arthur Rinderknech 7-6 (3), 6: 4 and Mariano Navone ran 6-2, 6: 4, Quentin Halys, 6-4. Coric is one of two players who won three Challenger titles together with Emilio Nava this season. Reilly Opelka was a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) winner against Corentin Moutet.

Eye aliasing falls in Estoril
Top-seed Felix Auger-Aliaside was upset in his opening game in the Millennium Estoril Open. The Italian qualified Andrea Pellegrino amazed player No. 19 in the PIF ATP ranking with 7: 5, 6: 4 for his greatest career win.

Pellegrino, No. 237 in the PIF ATP ranking, agreed with his own firepower’s difficult stroke and remained more consistent. Auger-aliaside now holds a record of 17: 11 in all levels. On a five-game skid, the 24-year-old started the year with triumphs in Adelaide and Montpellier. He also reached the Dubai ATP 500 finals.

Everything adds up

The 28-year-old Pellegrino will next face the seventh seed Nicolas Jarry, who saved a match point to escape Home Hope Gastao Elias 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

Only a day that Henrique Rocha’s house excursion in Portugal removed from Henrique Rocha, the Chilene agreed with a highly competitive victory against 34-year-old Elias. Jarry scored five games in successive games from 2 to 5 in determination, with a match point for the game fended off this game and used it to rise to the finish line.

The second seed Alex Michelsen is in the quarter-finals after his 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory against the Italian Giovanni Fonio. Next, the American will meet another Italian in Luca Nardi, who broke Alexey Vatutin 6: 3, 6-2.

Portugal’s own Nuno Borges treated the fans with an exciting three -person victory to close the day. The third seed survived Marton Fucsovics 7-6 (6), 6-7 (4), 6-4 after three hours and 15 minutes.
